The Grid & Raster Editor is the most complete 3rd party raster editor for ArcGIS, providing a set of drawing tools to easily edit single and multi-band raster datasets (integer or floating point rasters) in ArcMap. For instance, one can change the value of a single cell, or change the value of more cells by sketching in the map.Try this tool.
The toolbar combines image editor drawing tools (pixel edits) with the possibilities of ArcMap. It is like painting in a native GRID or one of the many other supported raster formats. This creates some advantages above the default ArcMap functionality. In ArcMap it's possible to draw graphics but these are not saved in the underlying geodataset. The Grid & Raster Editor saves the drawings directly in the edit raster by changing the cell values. The ARIS Grid & Raster Editor works without need of any extra ArcMap extensions (no need for Spatial Analyst).
Drawing tools
The ARIS Grid & Raster Editor adds a toolbar to ArcMap. This toolbar provides a set of tools to change the value of one or more cells. With these tools it is possible to:
- change the value of a single cell or pixel (pencil)
- draw a free line (pencil/freehand/brush)
- draw straight lines from one point to another (line)
- draw a solid polygon (polygon)
- change the value/color in a zone of cells with identical values (paintcan/fill)
- replace one value with another value in the entire grid (value replacer)
- create a selection area in the map to limit the working area for the above operations (edit area)

With the ARIS Grid & Raster Editor raster layers in an active dataframe in ArcMap can be edited. After starting an edit session the legend of the selected layer is shown in a dockable window. Here a value can be chosen to assign to the selected cells during editing.
Supported raster formats
Most single and multi-band raster formats editable by the ArcGIS Object Model are supported by the ARIS Grid & Raster Editor but may vary between ArcGIS versions. These raster formats include:
- Band interleaved by line (BIL)
- Band interleaved by pixel (BIP)
- Band sequential (BSQ)
- Bitmap (BMP)
- ENVI Raster (e.g. DAT, BIL, BIP, BSQ)
- ERDAS IMAGINE Image (IMG)
- Native GRID
- File Geodatabase Raster (GDB, FGDBR)
- Personal Geodatabase Raster (MDB, PGDB Image)
- SDE Raster (SDR)
- Tagged Image File Format (GeoTIFF, TIFF)
The data types / pixel types as supported by ArcGIS for the above raster formats are also supported by the ARIS Grid & Raster Editor.
Editing of these rasters can be done while the data is symbolized using:
- Unique Values Renderer
- Classified (Class Breaks) Renderer
- Stretched Color Ramp Renderer
- Discrete Color Renderer
- Internal Colormap Renderer
- RGB Composite Renderer
Possible uses
One possible use of the ARIS Grid & Raster Editor is to correct errors in an existing raster.
For example, when a raster is generated from satellite or photo imagery, automatic classification can cause misclassified cells through problems with reflection or atmospheric
conditions. With the ARIS Grid & Raster Editor these cell values can simply be modified.
The ARIS Grid & Raster Editor can also be used as a sketch tool. The Grid & Raster Editor can be used to interactively design plans, which can be processed and evaluated with Spatial Analyst tools immediately.

New version
Most important changes in 4.5.1:
- Compatible with ArcGIS 10.8 and 10.8.1 (and still ArcGIS 10.0 - 10.7.1).
- Program files and setup are digitally signed with a Code Signing Certificate.
Most important changes in previous releases (4.3.1 and 4.4.0):
- Compatible with ArcGIS 10.6.1 - 10.7.1 (and still ArcGIS 10.0 - 10.6).
- Using less then 3 bands in a Multi-band RGB raster will now use the right color as editing symbol.
- Editing a rectangle of cells and using a New Value of NODATA should now also work for SDE Raster (at least in ArcGIS 10.6 and up)
- Editing one cell or a rectangle of cells and using a New Value of NODATA should now also work for File Geodatabase Raster in ArcGIS 10.6.1 (did not work because of a new bug in ArcGIS 10.6.1).

- ArcEditor / ArcGIS Desktop Standard
- ArcInfo / ArcGIS Desktop Advanced

The Spatial Analyst extension is not required.
